How effective is venetoclax treatment?

Release date: 2024-08-13 18:02:21     Recommended: 149

Venetoclax is a small molecule drug that targets BCL-2 and is able to promote normal apoptosis of cancer cells by blocking the BCL-2 protein. Overexpression of BCL-2 protein in cancer patients prevents the natural death of tumor cells, while venetoclax can induce tumor cell death by selectively binding to BCL-2.

How effective is venetoclax treatment?

According to the drug label, the experimental data of venetoclax are as follows:

Median overall survival has not been reached, suggesting that the majority of patients are still alive during the time frame of the study, and not enough death events have been observed to calculate median overall survival. This is a positive sign that the combination is effective in prolonging patient survival.

Less than 10% of patients experienced regimen-related events, suggesting that venetoclax plus obintuzumab was relatively safe, with a low incidence of serious adverse events and a better tolerance of the regimen.

The median follow-up for overall survival was 28 months; The long-term follow-up further verified the long-term efficacy and stability of the treatment regimen.

Venetoclax for special populations?

Understanding the specific drug use groups of drugs can help patients reduce avoidable drug risks and better protect patients. According to the package insert:

1. Pediatric medication

The efficacy of venetoclax in pediatric patients has not been fully validated. Venetoclax should be used with special caution and strictly follow the guidance of a medical professional.

2. Hepatic insufficiency

For patients with mild or moderate hepatic insufficiency, venetoclax usually does not require dose adjustment. For patients with severe hepatic insufficiency, it is recommended to reduce the dose of venetoclax and strengthen the monitoring of adverse effects.

What is the dosage of venetoclax?

The dosage of venetoclax is one of the most important concerns of patients before purchasing and using the drug, which is organized as follows according to the drug label:

1. Dosage adjustment for patients with severe liver impairment

In patients with severe hepatic impairment, venetoclax should be reduced by 50% (Child-Pugh C) per day and monitored closely for adverse effects.

2. How to take it

The recommended dosage of venetoclax can be used in any approved tablet strength (e.g., 2 tablets of 50 mg or 10 tablets of 10 mg). If the normal dose is missed within 8 hours, the patient should take the missed dose as soon as possible and resume normal administration.

If missed for more than 8 hours, do not take the missed dose and resume normal administration the next day. If the patient vomits after administration, the patient should not take the additional dose on the same day and take the next dose at the normal time.

[Warm tips] During the use of venetoclax, patients should pay close attention to the changes in their condition, and report any physical discomfort or abnormal reaction to the doctor immediately and seek professional help.
