The standard recommended dosage of Tivozanib is one 1340 microgram capsule taken once daily for 21 consecutive days (3 weeks), followed by a 7-day (1 week) break. This 4-week cycle is then repeated. Treatment typically continues as long as the drug is effective and the patient does not experience unacceptable side effects. The capsule should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water, with or without food. Do not chew, dissolve, or open the capsule. Your doctor will regularly assess your condition and adjust the regimen as necessary.
If severe side effects occur, your doctor may interrupt treatment or reduce the dose to one 890 microgram capsule taken once daily for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break, also in a 4-week cycle. For patients with liver problems, your doctor may reduce the dosing frequency to once every other day (i.e., one 1340 microgram capsule every other day). Side effects such as hand-foot syndrome and hypertension may also lead to dose reduction or temporary interruption. If surgery is required, your doctor may advise you to temporarily stop taking Fotivda because it may affect wound healing.
If you forget to take a capsule, do not take a missed dose; simply take the next dose at the regular time. Never take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you vomit after taking a dose, do not take another capsule; just take the next dose at the regular time. If you take more than one capsule per day, tell your doctor immediately. Overdose is more likely to cause side effects, particularly hypertension. If you experience symptoms of high blood pressure such as confusion, altered mental status, or headache, seek medical attention immediately. Do not stop taking the medication without your doctor's permission, as this may worsen your condition.
