What is Tivozanib?

Tivozanib (generic name: tivozanib) is a prescription medicine used to treat adults with advanced kidney cancer (also known as advanced renal cell carcinoma, RCC) that has come back or has not improved after two or more prior treatments. It is the first and only vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) approved for this indication. The drug works by inhibiting tumor blood vessel growth, thereby controlling the growth and spread of cancer cells.

Suitable population and therapeutic positioning of Tivozanib

If you have been diagnosed with recurrent or metastatic kidney cancer and the current medication is no longer working, it means your cancer is in a "refractory" state. In this case, Tivozanib can be considered as a subsequent treatment option. You should have an open and honest discussion with your healthcare provider to find out if this drug is appropriate for you. Tivozanib is specifically intended for patients who have already tried at least two prior treatments (including immunotherapy or other TKIs) but have still experienced disease progression.

Dosage and cycle of Tivozanib

Taking Tivozanib is very convenient: one capsule once a day, swallowed with a glass of water, with or without food. The standard treatment cycle consists of 21 consecutive days of dosing followed by 7 days off, forming a complete 28-day cycle. Be sure to follow your healthcare provider's instructions exactly, and do not adjust the dose or stop taking the medicine on your own. This "three weeks on, one week off" design helps balance efficacy with the body's tolerability, allowing patients to better integrate it into their daily lives.
