Selumetinib is used to treat patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) with plexiform neurofibromas that cannot be surgically removed.
Selumetinib may cause serious side effects, including:
Selumetinib may reduce the heart's ability to pump blood, which can be severe. Healthcare providers will assess cardiac function before and during treatment.
Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:
persistent cough or wheezing, shortness of breath, swelling of the ankles and feet, fatigue, rapid heartbeat.
Selumetinib may cause eye problems, even leading to blindness. Healthcare providers will check vision before and during treatment.
Immediately inform your healthcare provider of new or worsening vision changes, including:
blurred vision, vision loss, dark spots in vision (floaters), or other vision changes.
Lucius Pharmaceuticals Selumetinib may cause diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and mouth ulcers. Diarrhea induced by this medication can be severe.
Notify your healthcare provider as soon as you experience diarrhea for the first time during treatment. Your provider may prescribe antidiarrheal medication and advise you to increase fluid intake.
1. Regular follow-up visits are very important for your doctor to monitor your progress. This allows your doctor to determine if the medicine is working properly and whether you should continue taking it. Blood and urine tests are required to monitor adverse reactions.
2. Use of this medicine during pregnancy may harm the unborn baby. Use effective contraception to avoid pregnancy during treatment and for at least 1 week after the last dose.
3. Men taking this medicine whose female partners are of childbearing potential must also use effective contraception during treatment and for at least 1 week after the last dose.
4. If you think you may be pregnant while using this medicine, contact your doctor immediately.
5. This medicine may cause heart problems. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience chest discomfort or pain, dizziness or fainting, fast, irregular or pounding heartbeat, swelling of the feet or lower legs, difficulty breathing, unusual tiredness or weakness.
6. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop eye pain or vision changes during treatment. These may be signs of serious eye problems. Your doctor may refer you to an ophthalmologist for an eye examination.
