Selumetinib is an oral small‑molecule kinase inhibitor.
Swallow the capsules whole with water. Do not open, chew, or crush the capsules.
For patients unable to swallow capsules (granule formulation):
Sprinkle or mix the granules into 1 to 3 teaspoons of soft food, such as smooth yogurt, banana puree, apple puree, pear puree, or strawberry puree.
The mixture must be taken within 30 minutes of preparation; discard any unused portion after 30 minutes and prepare a new dose.
If only part of the mixture is taken within 30 minutes, discard the remainder. Do not take extra dose to make up for it.
All of the next dose must be taken within 30 minutes of mixing.
Do not use the granules if they are clumped, stuck together, or cannot be loosened. Contact your pharmacy and discard the capsule shell containing the granules.
Do not swallow or chew the capsule shell.
Do not chew or crush the granules, and do not mix them with liquids.
Do not mix with grapefruit juice, or juice, puree, or jam containing Seville oranges.
If vomiting occurs after taking a dose, do not take an extra dose. Continue with the next scheduled dose as planned.
Your doctor may reduce your dose, temporarily stop treatment, or permanently discontinue treatment if certain side effects occur.
Tell your doctor how you are feeling during treatment. You may ask your pharmacist or doctor for the manufacturer’s patient information.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember.
If it is less than 6 hours until your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule.
Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.
