Drug Interactions with Finerenone

While taking finerenone, you must never take "strong CYP3A4 inhibitors". Also, if you are taking any of the following medications, please inform your doctor: amiloride or triamterene (diuretics); eplerenone, spironolactone, or other medicines similar to finerenone; trimethoprim or co-trimoxazole (antibacterials); potassium supplements or certain salt substitutes; and other drugs that may increase blood potassium. In addition, medications such as erythromycin, verapamil, fluvoxamine, rifampin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum), and efavirenz may affect the metabolism of finerenone, increasing the risk of adverse effects or reducing efficacy. If you are taking multiple other blood pressure-lowering medications, your doctor needs to monitor your blood pressure.

Food and Drink Restrictions with Finerenone

While taking finerenone, do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice. This is because grapefruit and its juice affect the activity of the CYP3A4 enzyme in the liver, leading to excessively high blood levels of finerenone, which may increase the risk of adverse reactions (see the adverse reactions section for possible adverse reactions).

Finerenone Use in Special Populations

If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, you should not take this medicine unless your doctor considers it absolutely necessary, as it may harm the unborn baby. Women of childbearing potential should take reliable contraceptive measures. You should not take this medicine while breastfeeding to avoid harm to the infant. Regarding the ability to drive and operate machinery, finerenone has no effect. This medicine contains lactose; if your doctor has told you that you are intolerant to certain sugars, please consult in advance. In addition, each tablet contains less than 1 mmol (23 mg) of sodium, meaning it is essentially "sodium-free".
