Severe Side Effects of Capmatinib

Although relatively rare, capmatinib may cause some severe side effects, which require high vigilance from patients and prompt intervention when they occur.

One of the most serious side effects is the potential for severe allergic reactions, which may present as difficulty breathing or wheezing, rapid heartbeat, fever or general malaise, swollen lymph nodes, and swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat. In addition, symptoms such as difficulty swallowing or tightness in the throat, skin itching, rash or hives, nausea and vomiting, dizziness or fainting, stomach cramps, and joint pain may also occur.

If any signs of the above allergic reactions appear, stop taking capmatinib immediately and seek emergency medical attention.

On the other hand, capmatinib may also cause lung inflammation known as interstitial lung disease or pneumonitis, which can be severe and even life-threatening. If a patient experiences difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately. Any new or worsening cough, fever, or shortness of breath should also be promptly reported to a doctor for evaluation and management.
