What Are the Daily Precautions for Camatinib?

Release date: 2026-01-09 17:22:05     Recommended: 101

Camatinib is indicated for the treatment of specific types of non-small cell lung cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. Belonging to the class of kinase inhibitors, camatinib exerts its therapeutic effect by blocking the activity of an abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to proliferate, thereby helping to slow down or prevent the spread of cancer cells.

What Are the Daily Precautions for Camatinib?

1. Unless otherwise directed, ensure you drink at least 2 to 3 quarts (approximately 1.9 to 2.8 liters) of fluid every 24 hours.

2. You may be at an increased risk of infection. Therefore, try to avoid crowded places or contact with people who have a cold, and immediately report fever or any other signs of infection to your healthcare provider.

3. Wash your hands frequently.

4. Use an electric razor and a soft-bristled toothbrush to minimize the risk of bleeding.

5. Avoid contact sports or activities that may cause injury.

6. To alleviate nausea, take antiemetic medications as prescribed by your doctor and eat small, frequent meals.

7. Follow the antidiarrheal treatment plan as prescribed by a medical professional.

Storage and Disposal of Camatinib

1. Store the medication in its original packaging container, with the cap tightly closed, and keep it out of the reach of children.

2. Store at room temperature, away from excessive heat and moisture (do not store in the bathroom).

3. Do not remove the desiccant (the small packet included with the tablets to absorb moisture) from the bottle.

4. Discard any unused tablets 6 weeks after the bottle is first opened.

5. Many medication bottles do not have child-resistant closures. Keep all medications out of sight and reach of children. Always lock the safety cap. Store medications in a secure place—one that is high enough and far away where children cannot see or reach them.

6. Dispose of unused medications in a manner that is inaccessible to pets, children, and other people. Do not flush this product down the toilet. It is recommended to use a medication take-back program.

Other Precautions for Camatinib

1. Keep all scheduled follow-up appointments with your doctor and undergo laboratory tests as required. Your doctor will order certain laboratory tests to monitor your body’s response to camatinib.

2. Do not allow anyone else to take your medication. If you have any questions about refilling your prescription, consult your pharmacist.

3. Make a written list of all prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, minerals, and dietary supplements you are taking. Carry this list with you every time you visit a doctor or are admitted to the hospital. It is advisable to keep the list on your person at all times for emergency situations.

4. In case of an overdose, call the poison control helpline immediately. If the victim is unconscious, having seizures, experiencing difficulty breathing, or cannot be awakened, dial the emergency number right away.
