Brigatinib (Alunbrig) may cause serious side effects, and patients need to be highly vigilant. First, lung problems: Brigatinib (Alunbrig) can cause severe or life-threatening lung inflammation at any time during treatment, which may lead to death. This is especially likely to occur during the first week of treatment. Symptoms include difficulty breathing, chest pain, cough (with or without phlegm), and fever. If you experience any new or worsening symptoms, inform your doctor immediately. Second, high blood pressure: Brigatinib (Alunbrig) can raise blood pressure. Your doctor will monitor your blood pressure regularly during treatment. If you experience headache, dizziness, blurred vision, chest pain, or shortness of breath, report it right away. Additionally, bradycardia (slow heart rate) may occur, with symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. Vision problems are also a concern, including double vision, flashing lights, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, and increased floaters. Other serious side effects include: muscle pain/weakness (which may indicate muscle damage), pancreatitis (manifested as upper abdominal pain radiating to the back), liver toxicity (symptoms include yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, nausea, right upper abdominal pain), and hyperglycemia (symptoms include extreme thirst, frequent urination, hunger, etc.).
In addition to the serious side effects above, the most common side effects of Brigatinib (Alunbrig) also include diarrhea, fatigue, nausea, rash, cough, muscle pain, headache, vomiting, and difficulty breathing. Most of these side effects are manageable. Patients should communicate their feelings with their doctor promptly. Based on the situation, the doctor may adjust the dose, temporarily stop treatment, or permanently discontinue treatment. Furthermore, Brigatinib (Alunbrig) may cause fertility problems in males and may affect a patient's ability to father a child. If you have concerns about fertility, it is recommended to have an open discussion with your healthcare provider. It is important to note that this is not a complete list of all possible side effects. Patients should carefully read the medication guide.
Correct administration: Brigatinib (Alunbrig) is taken orally once daily, one tablet each time. The first 7 days are at a dose of 90 mg (usually one 90 mg tablet), and from day 8 onward, the dose is increased to 180 mg (usually one 180 mg tablet). Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew. It may be taken with or without food. If you miss a dose, do not take a missed dose; just take the next dose at the regular time. If you vomit after taking a dose, do not take an extra dose. Store at room temperature between 20°C and 25°C. Two things to avoid during treatment: First, limit sun exposure. Brigatinib (Alunbrig) makes your skin sensitive to sunlight, making it easier to get sunburned. Therefore, during treatment and for at least 5 days after the last dose, you should wear a hat, protective clothing, and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF ≥30 and lip balm. Second, avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice, as grapefruit can increase the concentration of Brigatinib (Alunbrig) in the blood, raising the risk of toxicity. Additionally, patients who are planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding should note: Brigatinib (Alunbrig) may harm the fetus. Women with childbearing potential should use effective contraception during treatment and for at least 4 months after the last dose. Men should use contraception during treatment and for at least 3 months after the last dose. Do not breastfeed during treatment and for 1 week after the last dose.
